Empowering therapy for your personal growth and healing.
Seeking therapy takes strength and courage and I am grateful it has brought you here. It would be an honor to join you on your journey to create a healthier and more joyful life. I provide a non-judgmental, safe, and compassionate space for women struggling with anxiety, self-esteem, stress management, depression, relationship issues, grief and loss, postpartum wellness, and birth trauma. I also offer support with important life transitions such as adjusting to college, new relationships, divorce, parenthood, and job changes. Together we will empower you to achieve your goals and live the life you deserve.
I consider it such an honor for individuals to share their stories and struggles with me. I love being a part of the learning, growing, and healing that takes place in therapy. I am continually amazed by the human capacity to overcome, heal, and transform. Most of all, I love watching people thrive. It is important to me that our work together is a collaborative process where you feel seen, heard, and valued. Together we will identify personal strengths, coping skills, and effective tools that will help you make positive and lasting changes.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Level II Therapist, and a certified yoga teacher. I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Miami University and my Masters of Arts in Community Counseling degree at Xavier University. My 12 years of experience and passion for the field have instilled a deep respect for the therapeutic relationship. My education as well as my professional and life experiences have equipped me with the knowledge and skills to effectively help you gain insight and enhance your mental health.
Outside of work you can usually find me in nature. I moved from Ohio to Colorado in 2012 and find the mountains, forests, and lakes incredibly healing. I love to hike, camp, paddle board, spend time with friends and family, read, exercise, dance, listen to live music, travel, and explore all the magic this world has to offer. I also love playing with and learning from my sweet kiddo. Lastly, I believe laughter is so healing and I think it's important to not take oneself too seriously.
I incorporate a variety of evidence-based therapies based on your unique needs and personality. Common approaches include but are not limited to:
Person-centered therapy is a humanistic approach that emphasizes one’s inherent capacity for growth and self-understanding. This approach respects the fact that you are the expert on your own life and my role is to guide self-exploration, awareness, connection, and growth. It focuses on the importance of creating a safe, empathetic, and accepting space rooted in authenticity, understanding, and encouragement. Through the process of self-discovery, insight, and acceptance, one creates positive changes, improves self-confidence, and fosters greater independence in handling life's challenges.
Cognitive Behavioral therapy is based on the belief that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected. It focuses on the process of acknowledging and changing our thoughts which then improves how we feel and act. CBT helps you learn new ways of thinking and coping skills to deal with challenges in a healthier way. It improves self-awareness, mood, confidence, emotion regulation, problem-solving, stress management, and overall functioning.
Eye Movement Desensitization and reprocessing therapy focuses on the mind-body connection. When a traumatic or negative event occurs, our brain does not always process it completely. Consequently, upsetting memories can become stuck in our memory networks and lead to physical, emotional, and behavioral symptoms. EMDR works with your brain’s natural healing abilities to reprocess the events. It is a structured therapy where you focus briefly on a memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements or vibrating hand tappers). This helps the brain create new associations and adaptively process the memory. As a result, the intensity of the memory decreases therefore reducing related physical discomfort, negative beliefs, and emotional distress.
Somatic therapy also focuses on the mind-body connection. It is based on the premise that distressing events and emotions can become stored in our bodies and disrupt our nervous systems. It cultivates body awareness and teaches you to feel safe in your body while exploring thoughts, emotions, and memories. It also helps you develop resources to self-regulate and move from fight/flight/freeze responses to a higher functioning mode that allows you to think more clearly. Somatic techniques help to release stored emotions, decrease distress, and regulate the nervous system. Somatic therapy can decrease symptoms related to stress, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trust and intimacy issues, and self-esteem.
Mindfulness therapy combines mindfulness practices and therapeutic techniques to help you become more present and to cultivate non-judgmental acceptance of thoughts, feelings, and sensations. It teaches you how to explore thoughts and feelings from a curious and non-judgmental standpoint. It involves skills such as meditation, mindful observation, acceptance, body awareness, and relaxation techniques. Mindfulness helps to reduce stress and anxiety, enhances emotional regulation, increases self-awareness, and promote self-compassion and acceptance.
